Matthew Broughton
Freelance Graphic Designer
and Illustrator.

Matthew Broughton
I'm a Graphic Artist, Designer and Illustrator with over 20 years experience, both as a freelancer and a in-house designer. I'm originally from Geelong, studied in Ballarat but now based in Melbourne, Australia.

Sometimes it's hard to pigeon hole people, and I'm no exception. I've worked on everything from corporate branding through to commissions for illustration and artwork. I've collaborated on, and led design initiatives for a diverse range of clients in: education, publishing, textiles, business and the arts.
I also like to focus on a number of self-initiated side projects such as: painting, photography and recording music. These side projects have led to selling my artwork both here in Australia and internationally in: Europe, The Middle East and North America.

I maybe an individual freelancer - and I'm not trying to pretend to be anything else. I do believe this is my strength, as you (the client) get to work directly with the designer not through an account manager or agency. I'll work with you each step of the way to help bring your vision to reality.

I've built up a lot of great contacts with freelance professionals and I can draw upon and collaborate with other contractors as required such as: web developers, photographers, copywriters, printers and sign companies.

I create customised designs and illustrations to meet a creative brief or commission. As a consequence no two projects are the same. Each brief is quoted individually. To work out a quote it really helps for you (the client) to email through a brief and from that I can work out a price. If you need help formulating your brief I can send through a 'design brief' form, or we can chat over the phone.

I've been doing this for a while now. I first started out as a sign-writing apprentice in Geelong, just before computer graphics took over. I have a hands-on experience, and I still enjoy working away from the 'Mac' on lino-cut prints, paintings and hand drawn illustration.

After I completed my four year apprenticeship I traveled and worked around Europe and the middle east. When I came back to Australia, I returned to study fine art and design at the Gordon Institute and then the University of Ballarat, graduating with a Diploma of Fine Arts and Diploma of Graphic Design.

I've had around 25 years professional experience and during that time I've worked in: sign companies, marketing departments, in-house graphic designer, advertising agencies and as an independent graphic designer and illustrator.
